Position Title: Practice Manager, Nurse Planner

Division: Education, Content Development

Reports To: Director, Educational Content Development

BASIC FUNCTION
The Nurse Planner is actively involved in all aspects of planning, implementation and evaluation of continuing nursing education activities including live programs, webinars and other distance education courses. The Nurse Planner is responsible for ensuring appropriate educational design principles are used and processes are consistent with the requirements of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) program as well as managing the operations of the Provider Unit to ensure compliance with continuing education accreditation and the provision of quality professional development programs and activities. The position also assists in developing project plans and researching content for AADE’s medical education initiative. The nurse planner also provides professional expertise to AADE organizational units and assists in managing the advanced diabetes credential program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Continuing Nurse Education

Continuing Education
1.Recruits, orients and trains as needed, Provider Unit volunteers.

2.Performs the role of lead nurse planner for ANCC accreditation process
a.Assumes responsibility for adhering to American Nurses’ Credentialing Center’s Accreditation Program criteria
b.Guides the work of planning, implementing and evaluating each educational activity provided by the AADE

3.Participates in processes to maintain accreditation status with ANCC
a.Stays updated with changes in accreditation standards and monitors ANCC web site regularly
i.Communicates changes in accreditation standards to others as needed
b.Oversees outcomes evaluation, PU operations evaluation and implementation of a continuous quality improvement process for the PU
i.Prepares annual reports that address PU goals and objectives
ii.Coordinates an annual process for developing PU goals/objectives
4.Participates in processes for re-accreditation with ANCC accreditation (self study, application completion, compilation of data, etc.)

5.Provides education and orientation to AADE staff regarding PU and CE accreditation standards

Professional Practice
1.Responds to professional practice inquiries that relate to nursing practice or broad professional practice concepts and/or frameworks, from members and non-members.
2.Provide professional expertise to Science & Practice by reviewing practice documents and position statements; participation in symposia as needed; facilitates assigned work groups.
3.Provides professional expertise to other AADE organizational teams/units as needed.

Medical Education
1.Assist in developing project plans and researching content for AADE’s medical education initiative.

Advance Diabetes Management Credential
1.Assists in managing the advanced diabetes management credential program by providing operational assistance and research to support the needs of the program.

•Diabetes education and/or training experience in at least one healthcare setting (i.e. hospital-based, physician-based, home health, long term care, etc.)

•Ability to research topics thoroughly, assimilate information, and develop written content that is focused, accurate and understandable
•Intermediate computer proficiency in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, and Power Point
•Ability to learn to use association management software efficiently
•Where knowledge, skills, and abilities are not complete, either through time or breadth of responsibility, the individual must be able to recognize limitations and seek input from other authoritative services

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
•Must be a registered nurse
•Must hold a graduate degree and either the baccalaureate or the gradate degree must be in nursing
•Experience in developing continuing education programs for nurses or other healthcare professionals
•Knowledge of educational design principles and adult learning theory
•Ability to analyze/synthesize information related to meeting ANCCs accreditation criteria and key elements
•Knowledge of the Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development
•Project management skills
•Time management skills
•Experience in working with volunteers

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Occasional day and overnight travel by air and/or automobile may be required and occasional international travel may be a possibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Majority of work performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings across the country.
