The Stonegate Conference and Banquet Centre
Hoffman Estates, Illinois

A lively role-playing scenario performed by guest speaker George C. Mejicano, MD and IACME Board Member, George B. Beranek, MD, MBA introduced the meeting attendees to the importance of measuring return on investment (ROI). In the skit, "Mr. Bean Counter" asked "Mr. CME Director" to justify the funds used to produce CME at their organization.

Attendees learned how to identify the tangible and intangible benefits of producing CME programs, participated in ROI case studies, and even learned about something called the "Development Cascade" (you’ll have to view the presentation slides below to find out what that it). The most important aspect of measuring ROI is to remember that ROI begins at the beginning, that is, to develop a plan to measure ROI in the early stages of activity planning. Then do something with what you have learned from the ROI evaluation. Dr. Mejicano said, "When evaluating your overall CME program, the most important thing that must be done is to utilize the information that you have collected in order to make improvements!"
