The IACME is hosting a series of live, virtual Journal Clubs using chapters from the book Continuing Professional Development in Medicine and Health Care. Our next journal club will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Central.


TOPIC:  Implementing Team-Based, Interprofessional Learning: Insights and Challenges

Amidst the changing landscape of medical education, interprofessional education has become a hot topic. For this session of the IACME Virtual Journal Club, attendees will reflect on the issues and theories behind the topic, share insights and examples from their experiences, and discuss the barriers and challenges organizations may face in implementing interprofessional education.

  1. How much do you, your organization, and/or its members “buy into” the idea of interprofessional education for the healthcare team? What’s been the interest level and intentionality at your organization? What attempts have been made, if any, and what were the outcomes?
  2. How do you think continuous professional development (CPD), CME and CE can help professionals in your system to overcome the barriers to learning within teams and across professions?
  3. What do you and your team need to know or do to develop a thorough understanding of the topic, and what next steps might you take to implement a full plan?
